Location
Pungarehu Marae is located on the River Rd approximately 22km north of Whanganui. Parikino Pā is 2km further along the road.
General Information
Pungarehu Marae and Parikino Pā are sister marae that are nestled beneath the korowai of our maunga Punakewhitu, and sit beside the Awa Tupua – Te Awa o Whanganui. We are linked through our eponymous ancestors, Tuera and Hinearo.
There are three wharepuni within our hapū. Maranganui II is situated at Pungarehu, while Ko Wharewhiti and Te Aroha are located at Parikino Pā.

Ngāti Tūera / Ngāti Hinearo have many diverse education options available which include the kōhanga reo ‘Kotahitanga’, Parikino Kura Kaupapa, Te Wānanga-o-Raukawa Marae Based Studies, as well as the ‘Virtual Awa’ Information Technology Centre, an initiative designed to offer specialised Film Industry and IT training.
