Te Wānanga o Raukawa aims to make its contribution, however small, to the preparation of our people for the new world. Essentially this preparation will be toward maintaining and enhancing the health and wealth of our whānau, hapū and iwi through being active participants in the knowledge economy and society. Our people could be big contributors to the identity of Aotearoa New Zealand in the global knowledge society. Our reo, our symbols, our literature, our world view and so on; make us distinctive on this earth and could be absolutely essential for Aotearoa New Zealand to survive in the knowledge society.

Accordingly, every student at Te Wānanga o Raukawa needs to equip him or herself with certain essentials including a computer, selected software, electronic communication connectivity and capability, a printer and certain software. Advice on the acquisition of these items will be provided at the time of enrolment.

How can Te Wānanga o Raukawa help you prepare for study in 2012?
For 2012 we will endeavour to:
1. Present a range of creditable and affordable providers for hardware and software provision.
2. Provide an internet link to well priced communications options for:
    a. Pre-paid connections, and
    b. Contract connections.

Please do not hesitate to contact our team in Te Pūtahi Whakawhiti Pārongo for further information on 0800 TAUTOKO / 0800 8288656 to speak with our helpdesk tutors.

As a separate enrolment, but compulsory for first year students is the Poupou Mātauranga Rorohiko (PpMR) our basic computing course. This poupou requires approximately 450 hours of both contact and self-directed learning.

Year 2 students are required to complete the Poupou Rorohiko (PpR) a course designed to equip students with the computing skills necessary to successfully complete the learning outcomes for years 2 & 3 of the Iwi & Hapū component of their studies. This Poupou entails approximately 260 hours of both contact and self-directed learning. As a requirement, students who do not wish to participate in the PpR must opt off. The Poupou Rorohiko is a course designed for the intermediate user.

It is expected that this development will lead to an enhancement of the quality of learning at Te Wānanga o Raukawa and to greater capacity of our whānau, hapū and iwi to cope with, and benefit from, the emergent knowledge economy and society.

Two things are required. One is that we must be ready for huge amounts of innovation – the introduction of new ways of thinking and doing things. Computers, other hardware and software are at the heart of this.
