Scholarships

 

There are a number of scholarships you can apply for to support your study.  Check out the links below for closing dates and how to apply.


Te Hinemanu Ruakā Te Upokoiri Charitable Trust Scholarship

  • Supporting school leavers wanting to learn and teach te reo Māori and Māori history.
  • Applications close 31 October.

Heke Reo Māori ART Scholarship

  • For students from Te Ati Awa ki Whakarongotai, Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga and Ngāti Toa Rangatira.
  • One scholarship per ART hapū is available each year.
  • Closing date for applications is 1 March of the year of intended study.

Ōtaki and Porirua Trusts Board Scholarships

  • Supporting students in secondary school and tertiary level study.
  • Application period is 1 September to the day before Labour Day (usually the third week in October).

Ngāti Whakaue Postgraduate Scholarship

  • For postgraduate studies related to the business of Ngāti Whakaue Tribal Lands Incorporation
  • Includes studies in the area of business, accounting, environment, agribusiness and science related study.
  • Applicants must be a graduate of a NZ University AND be of Ngāti Whakaue descent

 Ngārimu Scholarship

  • For promising Māori students who display characteristics similar to the soldiers of the 28th Māori battalion.
  • Three undergraduate awards, one masters award, one masters eduation research award, one doctoral award.
  • Applications close 5pm 30 September.

Sir Apirana Ngata Memorial scholarships
  • Supporting Māori students studying at tertiary level in any field.
  • Applications close 30 April each year.

Teach NZ Scholarships
  • A range of scholarships supporting entry into the teaching profession and teaching graduates.
  • Various application periods between October and March

Ngāti Kahungungu Scholarships & Internships
  • For Ngāti Kahungungu students who are currently enrolled at a tertiary institution as a full-time tauira in the third or final year of completing a degree, or doing postgraduate study.
  • Research scholarships for full-time Ngāti Kahungungu tertiary postgraduate students undertaking research.
  • Applications open February each year and close in May.

Sir Hugh Kawharu Scholarship

Support from the Kawharu Foundation encouraging Māori leadership in the fields of cultural heritage, science and business.


Tūwharetoa Māori Trust Board Education Scholarships

Ten scholarships awarded per year for those who have studied at tertiary level and maintained a high grade average in the following subject areas: Agriculture, Arts, Commerce, Education, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Forestry, Health, Māori, Science. Applications open Tuesday 14 February 2017 and close Wednesday 31 May 2017.

Te Mana o Te Awa Scholarship

Assistance for descendants of Whanganui Iwi to excel in priority fields of study in order to contribute to the technical, scientific, policy, legal, governance and administrative capacity of the tribe in upholding Te Mana o Te Awa. Ultimately, it is intended that scholarship recipients will contribute to the health and well-being of both the Whanganui River (Te Awa Tupua) and Whanganui Iwi. There are 7 scholarships available for students studying a tertiary qualification in one or more of the following priority areas:

  • Environmental Sciences
  • Natural Resources
  • Environmental Law
  • Planning
  • Accounting           
  • Business Management and Administration
