The aim of the Poutuarongo Kaitiakitanga Pūtaiao (PKP) is to expose students to sustainable environmental activities from a te ao Māori worldview which is a transdisciplinary teaching, research and learning environment. The programme seeks to empower students with practical tools which will aid in hapū development, survival and self determination.
What this programme is about:
- Learning about biodiversity on Kapiti Island.
- Engaging with likeminded environmentalists.
- Monitoring a freshwater body for your hapū.
- Sustainable management planning for farms, eel fisheries, wetland etc.
- Native birds, their identification and calls.
- Native plants, their identification and traditional use.
- Alternatives for sustainable and eco-efficient building construction methods.
- A kaupapa Māori approach to horticulture and agriculture.
- Study within a co-learning and co-creating environment
Note: The final date to enrol into the year one programme is 20 April 2012.

This one year Heke (Diploma) is NZQA approved at level 5. The three year Poutuarongo (Bachelors Degree) is NZQA approved at level 7.
