The Poutuarongo Mātauranga Māori (PMM) introduces students to the explanation of human behaviour that is based on concepts handed down through generations of Māori. Te whakamāramatanga o ngā tikanga tuku iho e puta ai te titiro a te Māori ki tōna ao.

It is about understanding kaupapa and tikanga Māori that define the way we look at our world as Māori. The PMM programme looks at Māori knowledge, as our tūpuna understood it, as we understand it today and as it will be applied tomorrow.

Future pathways for graduates are:

  • Teaching (secondary, tertiary)
  • Consultant (tikanga and te reo)
  • Cultural Advisor / guidance to various organisations
  • Research / Policy Analyst
  • Broadcasting – radio and television and
  • Managing Māori organisations.

This three year Poutuarongo (Bachelors Degree) is NZQA approved at level 7.

Ngā Akoranga

Ko te whāinga nui o tēnei tohu, kia tupu, kia rangatira tā tātou wānanga, me tā tātou kawe i te mātauranga. Hua atu, kia rangatira hoki tā tātou whakaahua i te wānanga nei ki te reo Māori.

E toru ngā akoranga nui o te tohu nei:

  • Ngā akoranga o te mātauranga
  • Ngā tikanga o te rangahau me
  • Ngā tikanga o te reo Māori.

Kei ia marama ngā wānanga e whakahaerengia ai. E rua ngā rā te roa o ngā hui o te rōpū tuatahi, ā, ko te mātauranga tōna kaupapa nui. Kotahi te rā te roa o ngā hui o te rōpū tuarua. Kei ia marama hoki e whakahaerengia ana ngā huihuinga mō ngā tikanga o te rangahau. Kei ia marama ngā karaehe o te tuhituhi i te reo Māori e whakahaerengia ana. Atu i ēnei huihuinga, e toru ngā Hui Rūmaki e tū ana i te tau kotahi.

This three year Tāhuhu (Masters degree) is NZQA approved at level 9.

Ngā Akoranga

The Poupou Karanga (PpK) is a part-time certificate programme that aims to provide an opportunity, through karanga, for women to savour the richness of our heritage, to call upon the knowledge of our tūpuna-wāhine.  It aims to bring forth from each individual, a creative life, which reflects the values of our past, our present and our future.  The Poupou Karanga (PpK) will imbue the participants with a deep appreciate of this art form.

Future pathways for PpK graduates are:

  • Becoming an exponent of the karanga art form
  • Tutoring
  • Further study.
