E ngā ākonga, e te iwi whānui, kia tina i a tātou ngā pae e rua nei ki tō tātou Rā Whakapūmau e kainamu mai nei, kia haumi ē, kia hui e, tāiki e!

Te Rā Whakapūmau is the most anticipated day at Te Wānanga o Raukawa. It is a celebration of you and your achievements. It is a day to acknowledge your hard work, determination and persistence and the unswerving support of your whānau and friends. It is an important step towards achieving your dreams and commitments.  This is your day and we are proud to celebrate it with you.  This year the day is being celebrated on:

Before Graduation

Make sure that you can graduate. Graduating is conditional on completing and passing all your papers, returning any library books and resolving any outstanding payments or debts. If you are unsure, please contact your Whare Kaikōkiri to make sure you will be graduating.

Registering for Graduation

To help us with the preparations for graduation, please complete this graduation form. You will be confirming your attendance, letting us know how many whānau and friends you will be bringing, updating your Iwi details and letting us know if you have any accommodation needs.

Accommodation is available for those travelling from outside Kāpiti, Wellington, Horowhenua, Manawatū and Rangitikei. For those arriving on Friday, 8 December there will be a pōwhiri for you at 5pm at the Wānanga.



Graduation Day


This year parking will be available in the Ōtaki township only:

  • Behind Ōtaki Museum, access from Main St or Rangatira St
  • By the Ōtaki RSA, access from Raukawa St
  • Rangiātea Church (and the area opposite), access from Te Rauparaha St

Kaumātua can still be dropped off at the venue.  Shuttles will be available to help transport those who need it. Please follow the signs and directions from Te Wānanga o Raukawa staff. Remember to arrive in plenty of time to walk from your park to Ngā Purapura for the karanga at 9.30am.

The karanga to begin the programme will start promptly at 9.30am followed immediately by the karakia whakapūmau and the announcement and acknowledgement of all graduates.  Download the Te Wānanga o Raukawa app or check out our Facebook page to stay up to date with where proceedings are at throughout the day.  It will conclude with a hakari at about 3.00pm.

Grad Programme


Graduands will be invited to the stage to receive your certificates. The presentations will be in order of tohu (Poupou, Heke, Poutuarongo, Poutāhū, Tāhuhu), then by venue as outlined in the programme.

Please assemble 30 minutes prior to the commencement of the calling of your tohu/ qualification. At the marshalling area, please check in with the marshals who will confirm your details. You will then be called to the stage to receive your tohu. Please listen and arrive promptly to have your qualification presented by Ngā Purutanga Mauri and Kaihautū.  Download the Te Wānanga o Raukawa app or check out our Facebook page to stay up to date with proceedings on the day.

On stage you will be greeted by Ngā Purutanga Mauri, and your Kaihautū and will receive your qualification and a taonga. Taonga are gifted by Ngā Purutanga Mauri on the day of graduation and only those that attend a ceremony will receive a taonga.


Both formal and informal photographs will be taken on the day. Formal graduation portraits will be available in Ngā Purapura throughout the day. The cost for a digital portrait is $10 and must be paid for on the day by cash or eftpos, your photograph(s) will be emailed to you before Christmas. Informal photographs will be uploaded on to our Facebook page after the day.




During the day there will be kai stalls hosted by the local Kura and Kōhanga Reo, and Wānanga merchandise and books available for purchase. There will also be a supervised children’s area for tamariki to play. A parent or caregiver will need to be in attendance.

Te Kawa o Te Ako

The marae is our principal home to be maintained and respected. It is expected that Te Kawa o Te Ako will be observed, respected and supported at all times. Smoking, the consumption of alcohol and the use of drugs are to be refrained from while at Te Wānanga o Raukawa.
