Heke Whakaakoranga Kōhungahunga

Diploma in Teaching (Early Childhood)

The Heke Kaiwhakaako Kōhungahunga programme will introduce you to the foundations of the philosophies of early childhood teaching from a mātauranga Māori perspective. The diploma is suited to those who are already working in Kōhanga Reo, Puna Reo or early childhood, and those who want to enter this field of teaching.

Through this programme of study, you will learn to nurture and develop the Māori world view within our tamariki and mokopuna. The programme is delivered in te reo Māori and English through a series of noho or residential stays at the Ōtaki campus.

The Heke Kaiwhakaako Kōhungahunga is awarded to those who complete the first year of the three year Poutuarongo Kaiwhakaako Kōhungahunga degree.
