Heke Toiora Whānau is a one year introduction to the principles of whānau wellness and working in a Māori context. It is also the first year of the four year Poutuarongo Toiora Whānau degree accredited by the Social Workers Registration Board.

Mātauranga Māori and whakawhanaungatanga provide the foundations for the promotion of wellbeing, iwi and hapū planning, and hui organisation.  You will also develop kaupapa Māori research skills and a working knowledge of social policy, legislation, Māori policy development and practices relevant to whānau wellness.

Iwi and hapū studies and te reo Māori are an integral part of Heke Toiora Whānau.
