Whakakaupapa
Whakahou i te whaitohu / Re-brand
Why We Are Doing This?
Te Wānanga o Raukawa is not simply an institution of learning we are a living movement, born from the bold vision of Whakatupuranga Rua Mano. This whakakaupapa is not about aesthetics or logos; it is about reaffirming who we are as a kaupapa Māori movement, and ensuring that our identity truly reflects the mauri, aspirations, and future focus of our people.
The four guiding principles of Whakatupuranga Rua Mano remain the foundation of this kaupapa:
- Our people are our wealth – develop and retain them.
- Our reo is a taonga – halt its decline and revive it.
- Our marae are our principal home – maintain and respect them.
- Tino rangatiratanga – self determination.
Our rebrand is a deliberate act of rangatiratanga: to shape our own future, define our own voice, and present ourselves as unapologetically Māori to the world. The right branding gives us the tools to carry our kaupapa with clarity, mana, and relevance into every space we touch now and into the future.
It aligns to Hei Whakamaunga Atu, our 50-year strategy, which asks us to prepare boldly for the future of mātauranga Māori and ensure Te Wānanga o Raukawa continues to lead, inspire, and innovate for generations to come.
Are we changing our kaupapa?
No. Our kaupapa remain unchanged. This rebrand is not about shifting who we are, its about better reflecting who we’ve always been. The aim is to create a brand identity that communicates our values, wairua, and direction more clearly and consistently, especially in today’s world.
Why are we doing this rebrand?
We’re doing this to ensure that Te Wānanga o Raukawa’ identity continues to reflect the depth of our kaupapa, connect with our people. And carry our vision into the next 50 years. This rebrand is part of a natural evolution of the movement that begun wit Whakatupuranga Rua Mano; its about staying relevant while staying true.
What is a brand identity?
A brand identity is more than just a logo. It’s the full expression of who we are, our values, our tone, our visuals, our voice, and how we carry ourselves in the world. A strong brand identity help people understand us, feel connected, and recognise our kaupapa across all platforms, from karakia to digital spaces.
Will the logo change?
Its possible, but any visual changes will be based on the kōrero gathered through the consultation process. The tohu is only one part of our identity, any decisions about changes will be made with care and respect for our whakapapa and history.
How can I be involved?
You can fill out a survey, participate in an interview, or attend a wānanga if one is happening in your area. You may even want to support or facilitate a wānanga at your marae. If you’ve got whakaaro, feelings or ideas – share them. Your voice will directly influence how we shape the future identity of the Wānanga.
Who is this for – current people or future generations?
Both. This identity needs to serve our people today and our uri whakaheke. We’re asking: what do we want them to inherit? This process is about designing something that will carry the kaupapa into the next 50 years and beyond.
