He ara ora

wellness support

This page outlines the health and wellbeing services available to students at Te Wānanga o Raukawa. These supports are grounded in tikanga that reflect our deep commitment to the hauora of our people.

Together, we faced the challenges of the pandemic guided by our kaupapa. In response, we introduced protective tikanga—such as rāhui and the establishment of Te Āhuru Mōwai - to help keep our people safe. While many of these measures have now been lifted, they remain in place as needed to uphold the wellbeing of our whānau.

students falling unwell during noho

In any emergency 111 should be called immediately.  This would include any of the following:

  • Loss of control over limb or speech
  • Uncontrolled bleeding
  • Recent onset of chest pains
  • Significant shortness of breath
  • Significant major trauma
  • Sudden loss of vision
  • Unconscious patient
  • Ongoing seizure
  • Floppy/unresponsive.

If you become unwell while on noho in Ōtaki, the programme kaikōkiri, can arrange for you to be seen at the Ōtaki Medical Centre or Team Medical in Paraparaumu:

The student MUST take their ID and present it to Reception upon arrival. The student will be accompanied by a staff member of TWoR.

On-site health services

There is a free hauora clinic for students in conjunction with the Ōtaki Medical Centre. There is no cost for this service and students do not need to be registered with the Ōtaki Medical Centre. This service runs every Thursday from 9am – 3pm during the academic year.

For bookings, please email twor@otakimedical.co.nz

Located near student accommodation in room 7 of the Wairau building, the service includes general health checks, triaging and medical service support and should not replace an existing registered doctor’s service.

Pre-Noho Information

Ākonga are reminded to bring any required medication with them to campus for noho.

If you are experiencing cold or flu symptoms, please consider staying home until feeling well again.

Mauri tū, mauri ora!

Our revised pōwhiri tikanga, established during the pandemic, have remained in place — reflecting our continued commitment to the health and wellbeing of our people. As part of this process, karakia will be performed in place of hongi/harirū.

Staff, students and manuhiri have a responsibility and a role in minimising the risk of contagious illnesses.

1. In the interests of health and safety TWoR requires staff, students and manuhiri to use the online sign in system – timecloud. In the event of an emergency, we need to know who is on site.

2. Anyone displaying symptoms of cough, cold, sore throat, runny nose should stay home.

3. Maintain personal hygiene eg. wash hands often and thoroughly.

  • Access to Mental Health and Wellbeing Support with Ignite just got quicker and easier:

Great news! Access to Mental Health and Wellbeing Support with Ignite just got quicker and easier.

You can now log into Ignite using SSO (Single Sign On) via the Microsoft button – using the same student credentials you use to sign into eWānanga.

This means you no longer need to fill in an online form and request access to Ignite or wait to be sent an invitation.

  • If you’re new to Ignite:

    Visit https://ignite.org.nz/login

Log in using the “Continue with Microsoft” button with your student credentials

You’ll be taken through a quick onboarding process where you are asked to enter your name, and an email address for key communication (like booking confirmations and provider communication) and other details if you wish.

You can then book free one to one mental health and wellbeing support sessions, workshops and webinars and more!

  • If you’re already using Ignite:

Going forward you will use the “Continue with Microsoft” button to use SSO using your student credentials rather than the Email address* and Password* you set up previously.

Note: this will set up a new profile on Ignite (and takes you through a quick onboarding process), however if you would like to access your previous booking history you can still log in with the Email address* and Password* set up previously.

Important note: we recommend entering your preferred email address in the “communications email” field in account settings. If you do not add this all-booking confirmations and provide communication will be sent to your Te Wānanga o Raukawa student email.

If you have any pātai you can email hello@ignite.org.nz or call 0800 244 648
