Training the next generation of Māori teachers

Teaching graduates with a kaupapa Māori background are in demand. Study to become a bilingual, early childhood or te reo Māori immersion teacher at Te Wānanga o Raukawa. All courses are grounded in mātauranga Māori, giving you the perfect foundation to start in kura kaupapa, bilingual or mainstream settings. You will be well prepared to teach a range of subjects while offering perspective into a Māori worldview. As part of your training you will undertake Iwi and Hapū Studies which will strengthen your sense of self and connection with your whakapapa.

Turn your passion and existing work in your Kōhanga Reo, puna or early childhood centre into a career as you learn to nurture and develop the Māori world view within our tamariki and mokopuna. This course is delivered in both te reo Māori and English. You will be introduced to the foundations of the philosophies of early childhood teaching from a mātauranga Māori perspective and undertake indepth study on the language and its context in early childhood education.

 
 

Poutāhū Whakaakoranga Akorau
Postgraduate Diploma in Blended Teaching and Learning (Pre-service, Māori Medium, Primary)

- 1 year postgraduate diploma (NZQA Level 8)
- Residential seminars, self-directed learning and online delivery
- March start date
- TeachNZ Scholarship approved

This one-year postgraduate teaching course is for anyone holding an existing degree in any field. This tohu is an excellent choice for those wanting to begin their career in teaching and enhance their skills by implementing kaupapa Māori based blending learning options into their toolkit. Successful graduates of this qualification will meet the Education Council of Aotearoa New Zealand graduating teachers’ standard requirements, and may be eligible for provisional registration as a teacher.
