Whakatupu Mātauranga
Whakatupu Mātauranga supports Te Wānanga o Raukawa to reclaim, preserve and contribute to the mātauranga continuum.
“Mātauranga Māori is a body of knowledge that seeks to explain phenomena by drawing on concepts handed from one generation of Māori to another. Accordingly, mātauranga Māori has no beginning and is without end. It is constantly being enhanced and refined. Each passing generation of Māori make their own contribution to mātauranga Māori. The theory, or collection of theories, with associated values and practices, has accumulated mai i te Ao Māori/ from Māori beginnings and will continue to accumulate providing the whakapapa of mātauranga Māori is unbroken.”

Growing & sharing mātauranga
Whakatupu Mātauranga supports Te Wānanga o Raukawa to reclaim, preserve and contribute to the mātauranga continuum. This includes developing skills to grow and share mātauranga, using those skills in projects to expand our understanding, and sharing knowledge through publishing and hui.

Te Tākupu is the publishing area of Te Wānanga o Raukawa. Te Tākupu strives to uphold and promote the aspiration statements of Te Wānanga o Raukawa:

Te Tākupu’s main task is to publish works based in kaupapa and tikanga Māori. Te Tākupu will contribute to the expression of our guiding kaupapa through promoting, publishing and sharing mātauranga.

Wai 2698
Whakatupu Mātauranga Claim
The Whakatupu Mātauranga claim (Wai 2698) was lodged with the Waitangi Tribunal in December 2017, focused on the Crown's impact on our ability to contribute fully to the mātauranga continuum.
A significant milestone was reached in 2023 with the passage of a Wānanga Sector Framework amendment, enabling Te Wānanga o Raukawa to become a non-Crown entity wānanga on 1 January 2024.

Through Whakatupu Mātauranga we develop skills to grow and share mātauranga, drive projects that expand our understanding, and contribute to mātauranga Māori through publishing, hui, and collaborative research.
He Ara Mataora
Stopping Violence Without the State
He Ara Mataora is a website to support people to stop violence without bringing the State into our communities. Tools and information for people who are being hurt, people who are hurting others, and people who want to help.
A collaboration between the Wānanga and Creative Interventions, with support from Fulbright New Zealand and the NZ Lottery Grants Board.

Whāngai and the Adoption of Māori
This project will bring the adoption of Māori and the practice of whāngai together in a single study for the first time. It includes experiences of wider whānau, rather than concentrating solely on birth and adoptive parents, and considers healing and social change with a particular focus on the role of whāngai in their achievement.
Ngā Hua o te Kapa Haka: The Value of Kapa Haka to Health and Wellbeing
Te Wānanga o Raukawa has been contracted by Te Matatini to produce a report exploring the value of kapa haka to health and wellbeing. This work forms part of a wider project establishing the contribution of kapa haka to Aotearoa within social, cultural, economic and educational contexts.
Shoebox Christmas Aotearoa
Shoebox Christmas Aotearoa has been offering rangatahi opportunities to learn valuable skills by leading a project, communicating efficiently, using data effectively and modelling from a values-based approach. Te Wānanga o Raukawa's long-term vision is to develop a clear pathway for rangatahi from kura to wānanga.
