He kaupapa rangahau tōmua tēnei mā te tauira e anga nui mai ana ki ōna. Ā, me whai tohu paetahi, me ōrite rānei ngā pūkenga, ka mutu, me wairua rangahau, me mōhio ki te tuhi i te reo Māori, ā, me mātua mōhio ki te reo Māori.
Note: This course is taught in te reo Māori and includes Iwi and Hapū compulsory studies.
Course Structure
The Poutāhū Reo Māori is a one-year postgraduate diploma and forms Year One of the Tāhuhu Reo Māori (Master of Te Reo Māori). These Iwi and Hapū papers are often among the most rewarding of the programme - delivering a deep connection back to your roots.
Minimum age of 17 years. Good capacity in te reo Māori as the course is total immersion. Support from a hapū/iwi to conduct research. Hold an undergraduate degree or have appropriate knowledge and experience to study at postgraduate level.

REO401 Te Whakatupu I Te Reo I/Te Reo O Ngā Niupepa Māori
Kia whakatupu mātauranga te ākonga mā te ruku i te rerehua o te reo, tōna ngāwari, tōna hōhonu tōna ngahau, me te atamai o ō tātou tūpuna ki te tārai i ō rātou whakaaro i tāngia ai ki ngā nūpepa Māori tawhito o mua, o ngā tau 1840 ki ngā tau 1930.

REO402 Te Reo Auaha
He whakatupu mātauranga e tiro mātai ana i ngā ara tūturu o mua a te Māori ki te whakanikoniko i te reo, otirā, te aronga Māori ki te momo reo e kīia nei ko te reo ‘auaha’; tōna ōrokohanga mai me tōna hiranga hei reo whakaatu i te wairua Māori ‘auaha’ ki ngā titonga me ngā tuhinga auaha o nāianei.

To explore the depth of the contribution that kaumātua make to the statement ‘Our people are our wealth’.

How You'll Learn
Residential Seminars (Noho) Attend intensive on-campus noho at Te Wānanga o Raukawa in a total immersion te reo environment.
Self-Directed Learning Independent written work, language practice, and research supported by experienced pūkenga.
Online Iwi and Hapū Papers Delivered online via Mūrau with weekly tutor-supported activities throughout the year. Assignments become taonga for your whānau, marae, and iwi.
Online Seminars (Noho) Engage in online webinars and tutorials with opportunities for discussion and wananga learning.

Is This Course Right For You?
This qualification is for those with a strong base in te reo Māori who want to deepen their language skills at postgraduate level - exploring historical texts, creative expression, and formal registers of te reo.
Te Reo and Iwi and Hapū Studies
You will also study two papers in Iwi and Hapū studies to compliment your learning, these are often the most rewarding part of study for the majority of our students as they gain a deep connection back to their roots. Your Iwi and Hapū papers will be online with excellent tutor support to help you through, week by week activities. The assignments that you complete will become a taonga and resource for your whānau, marae, iwi and will be treasured for years to come.
Iwi and Hapū studies begin in the first week of the academic year, so you can begin your studies before your first specialisation noho. You will also get the opportunity to meet your reo and iwi and hapū pūkenga during your first noho on campus.
