What You'll Learn
Students integrate tikanga Māori, te reo, and iwi and hapū studies into management knowledge - learning to plan, lead, organise and control business affairs through a Māori world view. This covers value-based business approaches, strategic analysis, operations, project management, and the legal environment.
Course Structure
The Poutāhū Whakahaere is a one-year postgraduate diploma and also forms Year One of the Tāhuhu Whakahaere (Master of Māori and Management). Online components begin in the first week of the academic year.
Entry Requirements
Minimum age of 17 years. Proficiency in te reo Māori required. Support from a hapū or iwi to conduct research. Must hold an undergraduate degree or have appropriate knowledge and experience for postgraduate study.

TWHA401 - Pae Tāwhiti, Ngā Pae Tata Whakamaua Kia Tina – Integration of Learning
Students’ will be introduced to Māori philosophies that inform both organisational culture and one’s own philosophy.

TWHA402 - Mana Rautaki – Strategy, Analysis and Decision Making in Management
The course will examine hapū and iwi decision-making models as foundations for effective Māori Management.

TWHA403 - Mana Tangata – Paihere Tangata and the Legal Environment
Students will apply kaupapa Māori to organisational design and the interpretation of legislative requirements as a mana enhancing tool.

TWHA404 - Mana Kaupapa – Operations and Project Management
Students will explore how kaupapa Māori-informed operational and project management processes can elevate and support Māori aspirations.

HAPŪ401 - Ko ngā Kaumātua: He Kura Te Tangata
To explore the depth of the contribution that kaumātua make to the statement ‘Our people are our wealth’.

To examine active participation on the marae through a study of hapū tikanga, and the contribution those tikanga make to the statement, ‘The marae is our principal home’.

How You'll Learn
Residential Seminars (Noho) Attend intensive on-campus noho in Ōtaki combining management theory with tikanga Māori practice.
Self-Directed Learning Independent research, assignments, and management case studies throughout the year.
Te Reo Component Two te reo papers per year attending noho on campus (or online as per the course schedule).
Iwi and Hapū Papers Two online papers per year with weekly tutor support and activities.
Online Seminars (Noho) Engage in online webinars and tutorials with opportunities for discussion and wananga learning.

Is This Course Right For You?
This qualification is designed for those with an undergraduate degree or equivalent experience who want to integrate tikanga Māori into their management practice - developing the skills for middle to senior leadership roles in any organisation.
